Getting Bikini Ready

It's a lot of awesome.

It's a lot of awesome.

Bikini Ready...Sigh

"Bikini ready" is one of those phrases that evokes a feeling of dread and despair in most women.  We try to watch what we eat, but the extra cookies, cupcakes, candy, muffins, family feasts, and overall intake of comfort food throughout the winter months creep up on even the staunchest of healthy eaters.  This Sunday is not only the Super Bowl but it's also the start of February and we know what that means- swimsuit season is right around the corner!  February is typically the coldest month of the year in most locations in the U.S., but don't let that fool you!  Soon the chill of February will give way to the milder temps of March and April, and before you know it, summer is here.  Well fear not, my friends!  We've checked around the web and found some killer workouts that will have you bikini ready in no time!

Pilates, Please

Pilates are one of those activities that sound trendy, but is actually incredibly useful and easy to do on your own.  Rather than sweat on a treadmill, go outside or simply into your living room and try this easy at-home workout we found from Fitness Magazine.   If you follow a healthy diet, you should see results in as quickly as four weeks!  If pilates aren't your thing, here's a link to some more workouts recommended by Fitness Magazine.  It's nice to have options, isn't it?

Focusing on "Problem Areas"

Ladies, you know what I mean by this.  So-called "problem areas" are the parts that no matter what you do or how hard you work, you just can't seem to get rid of that last bit of perceived flab.  For some people, that might be their abs.  For others, it could be their inner thighs.  Well, here we've found a video by model Jillian Michaels to help you target some of your "problem areas."

Getting Back to Eating Healthy

Of course, no amount of working out is going to do any good if you don't fuel your body with a healthy diet.  We are all guilty of the odd fast food trip at lunch, or the extra cookie before bedtime.  It's okay to let yourself slide every now and then, but do so in moderation.  If you want to slim down for summer, you have to make sure that the majority of your food choices are healthy ones.  If you have questions about how to prepare a healthy menu, check out this site from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  It has all kinds of downloadable tips and ideas for how you can eat right and stay healthy through your diet.

No Harm in Practicing a Bit of Self-Love

Sometimes, no matter what the scales say or how we really look in our swimsuit, we just don't feel bikini ready.  THAT IS 100% OKAY!!!  Far too often in our society, and in every society since the dawn of time it seems, we hold ourselves and each other to impossible standards for what constitutes beauty.  In every era and in every culture, the definition of beauty changes, it is fluid.  That is a fact.  So what was beautiful 50 years ago may not be the ideal image now, and what's beautiful now may look downright silly in another 50 years.  We waste a lot of time worrying about what we "should" look like and not appreciating what we DO look like.  The above information is solely for the purpose of helping you feel like your version of your ideal self, whatever that may be.

And for the record, we think you look great just the way you are!
