Making a simple place your home-based resort living
Imagine walking out your back door, along a path flanked by perfectly groomed shrubbery. Outdoor mood lighting illuminates your way to a spacious deck. You climb the steps. To your right sits an inviting array of patio furniture next to a glinting stainless steel grill. Your pool water glistens on the horizon. A waterfall spills in the middle of the pool, a few feet from a bubbling spa spillover.

From small one-shot projects to major overhauls, you can transform your backyard into the place to be.
The following is a guide through the most common options for renovations of total backyard environments, where a pool is the centerpiece of a much grander place.

Interior Resurfacing
Resurfacing can restore your pool, or completely change the color and texture.

Gunite pools provide an opportunity to explore a variety of surfaces. Pebble surfaces, colored plaster, mosaic tile, and other selections add a gorgeous finish to your pool's floor surface. Options include restoring the pristine white floor of your pool or completely changing the color or texture.

Plaster is the most well-known pool surface. Most new plaster has additives that resist stains, add strength and provide texture.

Pebble surfaces have unique texture and an extremely durable finish. They are stain-resistant and available in many colors. Pebble surfaces use natural river rocks and special cement for durable and beautiful results.
Tile is also another choice for pool surfaces. Mosaic tile now comes in a wide array of colors. A new water line tile can restore a crisp and clean look to your pool.

Decking
Special concrete finishes or stone can make your pool an extension of your home's architecture. Multi-level decks are also an option that can create more interesting elevations to feature tranquil sitting areas, kitchens with a dining area, or as a simple sun deck with chaise lounges to relax.

Tile has always been a favorite choice for pool and spa surfaces. Nothing compares to the classic elegance of a fully tiled spa. Mosaic tile now comes in a wide array of colors and can be custom designed to create a unique inlay with style.  Adding new water line tile will make the edges of your pool look crisp and clean again. Tile and mosaics not only improve your poolscape, they turn it into a work of art.

 

Spas
Relax after a refreshing swim or a hard day’s work

A spa is a wonderful option to add to any pool. Come home from work, slip into your bathing suit, then slip into a warm and relaxing spa. Spas can be independent or integrated into your overall poolscape.
A spa spillover is a unique feature that creates an elegant bond between your pool and spa. The spillover is created by building your spa along the pool’s edge, allowing cascading water from the spa to flow into the pool, creating a dramatic and inviting effect.

Equipment Upgrades

Be sure to take advantage of some of the latest innovations in pool equipment. Today's technology allows you to automate much of the cleaning and operational processes.

Equipment manufacturers are creating systems that are targeted to more energy efficiency, thus saving money and more eco-friendly.  Pentair Water Pool and Spa have developed “Eco Select” equipment system choices to address the changing needs for efficiency and conservation.  Their products save energy, conserve water, eliminate noise, or otherwise constitute to a more environmentally responsible equipment system.  Some of these “Eco Select” products are variable speed pumps, LED pool and spa lighting, low NOx heaters,  and high performance filters that reduce water use.

Automatic Chlorine Generators have become more popular as an option for sanitizing your pool.  Using plain salt to create pure chlorine, the automatic chlorine generators are the easiest, most effective and convenient way to keep pool water sparkling clean.  Some of the additional advantages is that there is no need to buy, transport and store expensive chlorine compounds.  And, no more odor, stinging eyes, irritated skin or bleached out swimsuits.

Cleaning equipment available today takes much of the hassle out of pool maintenance. Automatic pool cleaners have the ability to walk the bottom of your pool surface and clean debris.
Remote controls allow you to automate much of the operation process. By installing remote controls from inside your home, you can control your pool, spa, heaters, lighting, covers and more. You can program a spa to have it ready for you after a hard day at work. Another possibility is to program the lighting system to turn on at a specific time.

 

Lighting
Dramatic lighting changes the look and mood.  Add or modify pool lighting to extend your poolside entertaining well into the evening. Accessories are a perfect finishing touch.  A backyard pool provides the perfect setting for outdoor living. Backyard poolscapes are versatile entertainment zones, serving as your peaceful retreat or your favorite party spot. Add an element of fun with pool toys and games or select accessories that are well-suited for hosting family gatherings.

Flickering firelight casts a warm glow and transforms the entire feel of your pool area. Whether you’re planning a gathering of great friends or a romantic evening for two, a fire pit or chimenea brings the feel of the great outdoors into your backyard. Gas and wood-burning fire places or fire pits add extra warmth, allowing you to enjoy even a chilly evening by the pool.
